Jay-Z Loses UK Court Battle

Jay-Z doesn't take many L's. But yesterday, the omnipresent hip-hop mogul lost a court dispute with a restaurant owner in New Castle, England.
The 40-year-old rhyme behemoth, who recently took in an estimated $122 million combined with the earnings of superstar wife BeyoncĂ© in 2009, sued celebrity chef Terry Miller over the rights to the word “Rockafella,” of which had been used as the name of Miller’s eatery.
The court battle dates back to 2006 when Jay-Z claimed that the title would confuse the public into believing that Miller’s business was associated with the Brooklyn-born spitter’s Roc-A-Fella Records imprint.
The British courts ruled in favor of Miller (he was given exclusive trademark and rights to use of the name in the UK), who started his restaurant with the $250,000 he earned on the cooking reality show, Hell’s Kitchen.
